Prepare for something new

This year has been a year where everything is different from normal, all the things we would normally do have been postponed or had to be done differently.  Remembrance Sunday was a perfect example of things having to be done differently, people weren’t allowed to gather around war memorials to pay their respects to those who had fought and died for our freedom.  However, Remembrance Sunday was not forgotten, people did not say, ‘Oh well, we will remember next year.’  It was different, but people still remembered, whether in church or at home alone, we remembered.  Wreaths were still laid, just throughout the day rather than during a ceremony.

 

We have got used to preparing for something new and this week, St Serf’s is preparing for a new minister after more than six and a half years.  This too, will be different, there will be no full church for the induction, their will be no social afterwards where the congregation really get to welcome the new minister.  In this time of difference, there is still excitement amongst the congregation who will welcome Rev Zoltan Safrany.  It will be difficult for Zoltan to get to know the congregation as there are only a small number of people in church on a Sunday morning.  There are no activities taking place, no Drop-in, no Coffee mornings, no Christmas Fayres, no craft group, no Bible Study, but I am sure he will find ways of getting to know as many of the congregation as possible.

 

God has filled the long vacancy here in St. Serf’s and he will make sure that Zoltan is able to meet as many people as possible and carry out God’s work in this congregation and in the community of Lochgelly and Benarty.  Exactly as it is written in Isaiah 40:18-19.

 

‘Forget the former things,

do not dwell on the past. 

See, I am doing a new thing. 

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? 

I am making a way in the desert

and streams in the wasteland.’
